Where in Iceland? Want to check out the Volcano
Hi everyone!
I'm quite new at the forum and I really hope you guys can help me! I love travelling, and recently I have this obsession with the volcano and I was wondering what is the closest I can get to it! I have some extra money saved and I would love to go for a weekend somewhere in Iceland, not necessarily next to the volcano, but that gives me the chance to take a look at it (maybe in a day guided tour or something).
Any suggestions???
Cheers!!!
Sarah

Sarah,
We visited Iceland last year in April. We used this company for a few different day trips and they offer very good tours and service.

Looks like they have added Volcano Tours. I suggest basing your self in Reykjavit. We stayed at the Centrum and really liked this hotel.

If you're referring to Eyjafjallajökull, do keep in mind that it has largely stopped spewing ash and such, so if you were hoping to see that, you probably won't be able to. However, it seems like Katla, the bigger volcano nearby, seems like it has some activity around it, so maybe if you wait a week or two, you'll get to see Katla in all her glory.

If it happens... say goodbye to your return flight, find a nice flat in Rejkjavik and start looking for a job

hi Sarah,
they were talking about this on the BBC radio travel programme last sat - apparently you can get to within about 8km, or you could when they were recording the programme.
this is the link to the company run by the chap they interviewd on the radio:
http://www.hl.is/
and this is the link to the programme:

good luck with your trip!

I spent 4 days in Reykvavik last week - there are bus tours to the volcano for 99 kronor BUT even the employees of the bus line said not to go as the volcano isn't doing anything right now. The buses stop about 1.5 km away according to their ads.

Sorry, that's 9900 kronor for the tour. There are others: http://www.re.is/DayTours/VolcanoDayTours/

Hi guys!!!
sorry I hadn't answered before but thanks for all your replies! Sadly changed my trip and never went to Iceland, especially since the volcano stopped and I was quite interested in taking some pictures!
Thanks again!
