Hi

just to make people feel better !

When I moved to Sweden , it was February. The lorry was unloaded in -15C and snow. We didn't know what was in the garden until May because it was under snow. The sea thawed end April. Daffodils were out mid June.

Glad I'm in South of France now !

Peter
http://tlp.netfirms.com

Here in Scotland it looks like spring- daffodils, crocuses, lambs, blue skies and all that. Like the rest of the UK we've just had the sunniest March on record.

But my goodness is it cold!! I had a business breakfast at 6.30am yesterday and it was 4 degreesC below. brrrrr!

Yes, it did snow in Venice on Monday, starting midmorning and going on for a good two hours or so. We got some great pictures, and I got pelted with a snow ball by a high-spirited gondolier (snow accumulated on awnings; the stuff on the ground turned to slush) who earned himself a reprimand from a police officer to whom I mentioned it (it hurt, and freaked out my kids).

That evening we walked through the Rialto market on our way to dinner and found a snow man that had apparently been made from the snow off the awnings (some was still present in the awnings many hours later). On our way back he was a bit melted (his carrot nose had fallen to the ground), but still recognizable. They'd made him a cigarette, so he was truly an Italian snow man.

The entire week was mostly chilly, and once again the layering approach to travel gear paid off: everybody was toasty and dry and well-dressed, despite packing carry-ons only.

Julies... I live in Bemidji, snowed last week, 70 today! I have on good authority that along with Sheila's neighborhood it's green and blooming in Kirkcudbright Scotland. We visited the Keukenhoff Garden, Netherlands at this time last year. Breathtaking. BIG SIGH... the sun is headed our way!

Just returned from France. Paris is in bloom and beautiful. The gardens are being planted. This time of year Sicily is also in bloom with wild flowers in the fields(we were there at this time last year)

I hope for some nice spring weather when we'll be on Madeira Island next week. Although it's not bad at all right now in Belgum. Beautiful cherry blossoms everywhere. Magnolia trees however have suffered from the late frost.
