Southeast Connecticut, where it's a beautiful 70 degrees and the leaves are about 30% turned. We'll celebrate by going apple picking and pumpkin picking this weekend, but we'll have to wait until the promised rain stops... Happy Wednesday, all!

teacherlady, oh yes, the sun!!! Fantastic (except for the reason behind it - or in this case the smoke in front of the sun).
And did you see the sunset last night?
The sun was a gigantic bright red ball.
Hope you saw it.
I don't think I have ever seen the sun look like that.
All my neighbors came out to watch too (as we hacked away in the smoky air).
Guess the thinking is it will take until Saturday to get the fire stopped.
Take care.

cold, rainy night here in castlebar, ireland. The weather here in the west of the country is often unpredictable to say the least. But the lovely scenery makes up for it.
Lived in Iowa City for three years, and the descriptions of fall in Michigan/Wisconsin are making me nostalgic.

I'm in west Marin, LoveItaly, and we can't smell the smoke here but I sure could see it as I drove home from SFO yesterday afternoon. Fire season makes me very nervous -- I'll be very glad when we get our first rain. (would love an umbrella icon here...)

West Central Alabama (a hundred or so miles north of you, Fairhope), lovely day, breezy and about 70 degrees. The first leaves on our oaks are beginning to fall.
The oddest thing: some of the Bradford pear trees in town are blooming again! "They say" it's because so many leaves were blown away by Ivan.
Busy preparing to babysit toddler grandson this weekend, then take off Tuesday for Switzerland!

Thank you Thank you!!
This is perfect, I can travel in my mind to see each place that you describe. and I do miss the autumn chill and colorful leaves.
Hi beachy! we were in Avondale today, bright blue skies, cool breeze off the river, we walked for miles!
I am sorry to hear about the fires in California !
Keep em coming, what about France and England? Thanks lobo
And I was wondering how things are in Canada ~

Fall in central Oklahoma: sunny, breezy, 68 degrees. Trees wanting to turn to blazing autumn colors but still in the 'thinking' stage... Had lunch with my daughter yesterday and she said 'I love the way fall smells'. Thought that was a cool way to put it...

Victoria BC, Canada. Sunny, mid 60s (18 degrees C). Beautiful pastel sunrise in a clear sky this morning. Leaves - various stages from green to yellow and red. Grass - thick and green. Chestnuts and acorns falling. Flickers calling. Flower beds at parliament buildings have been cleaned out and smell all nice & earthy. Soon there will be autumn festivals at peninsula farms with lots of pumpkins and hayrides, corn mazes, etc.

Scarlett - I live at Hervey Bay, Queensland, Australia, the gateway to Fraser Island (the largest sand island in the world, with pristine freshwater lakes, beaches and forests, with wild brumbies and dingoes). Hervey Bay is a wide bay, with one continuous beach. Directly out to sea, some 35 minutes flight in a small plane is Lady Elliot ISland, which is the first coral cay islands on the southern Great Barrier Reef. Our temperatures range from 23 degrees in the winter to about 33 degrees in the summer (celius that is), and our water temperature gets to about 28 degrees celius in the summer.
It is dry here at the moment, and we are waiting for our summer tropical storms to supply us with more rainfall.
We don't have fall leaves, unless the coconut palms fronds turn yellow with the drought. Our city celebrates a lot of events, including spring, summer & autumn. I wear shorts & t-shirt all through the year, and try to swim most days of the year, including winter.

Howdy, neighbor hightide! Just yesterday I took a walk with my kids and we had a long discussion about how fall smells. I love it I love it I love it!
My California friends,
My heart is with you. I know how horrifying yet spectacular those skies are as we almost lost our home in the San Diego fires last year. Next time you see a firefighter give him or her a hug.
