When to go to Austria?
I' sure appreciate some opinions on what month of the year is best for a typical spring/summer sight-seeing, non-skiing vacation in Austria (especially Vienna and the Alps? By best I mean reasonable temperatures, least rain, most sun.

Thanks to all who reply

I've been there in late March, mid-June and late September. June was the best of these three (though I liked all three). mid-March was gray and drizzly, September was pretty cold in the early morning hours.

I suspect that July and August might be just fine.

Best wishes,

Rex
We were there during July in 1994. It was very sunny and very warm. In fact, they were having a heat wave. It that occurs, however, we discovered in Salzburg they have wonderful public swimming pools right outside the city, and you can get downright cold going into the saltmines!

We have had the best luck with September, cool less rain and less people.

Well, this is not what you asked for,..reasonable temps, most sun, least rain...........We had a GREAT trip in November one year and traded off the above for almost NO tourists, very low rates at nice hotels, and crisp fresh air (though some cold rain, which makes returning to the hotel after walking in the rain a real treat).
The train ride from Salzburg to Zurich
was a fairyland of snow after a fresh snow the night before. Vienna to Budapest was a wonderful train ride,..(we usually drive a car in Europe)
and the weather sunny and refreshing in those two cities. Christmas was in the air and it was a very lovely time to travel.
But then you seem to want to travel with all the tourists in the summer.
For your question, I imagine Sept. or May would be the best.
