pacific northwest travel

i want to do a driving trip of the pacific northwest. don't want to travel in the summer months. will i generally have decent weather (not excessively rainy)in may? is there a better time to visit?

May is likely to be rainy, yes, although no one can predict the weather, of course. The best months for travel are probably August and September. So if you can call September "fall" try to visit then.

Early Fall is your best bet for good weather outside the summer months. September thru mid-October is usually pretty nice.

The Pacific Northwest is a pretty big place. May can be fine in central or eastern Oregon or Washington. The chances of rain in coastal areas is higher; OTOH spring in the PNW can be drop-dead gorgeous. Full waterfalls, wildflowers... pretty much depends on your route and preferences.

Summer in Seattle begins right after July 4 and continues through August. If you want to come at some other time, I agree with those who suggested coming after rather than before July and August. My choice would be September.
