From weatherbase.com - - Madrid averages six days each March BELOW 32 degrees F, and two days each April.
Fairly similar to say... Wichita , Kansas. Hardly sundress weather.
Because of its coastal location, Cdiz will be more moderate. No freezing days on average (usng the dat for Jerez), but the average high for April is still only 69; average low 50 47 for March). It actually doesn't vary THAT much there, all year round.
Summery weather or not, congratulations on your new life in marriage... and...
Best wishes,
Rex

There seems to be lots of confusion about weather in southern Europe; you are not alone in thinking that the Meditereranean climate is similar to that of the Caribbean. For a reality check, look at a map, and you will see, eg., that Nice is about at the same latitude as NYC. Nice does have a more temperate climate than NYC, but it is not the tropics. Same for Spain, although more southern than so. of France.
As Rex said, you will have a wonderful time despite the lack of summery weather! And you may get lucky and run into an unseasonably warm spell, but not to count on. Best wishes to you!

My experience has been also that women seem to wear "winter" clothes longer in European cities than I had imagined. In Athens in mid-May, many women were wearing suits (probably lt. weight wools) to dinner, and I was all ready for spring/summer with my linens. Exceptions to this would be resort areas.
typo on "Mediterranean" in my last post.

In southern Spain April will definitely be springtime weather but not yet deep summer. We were there at the end of April and highs were about 80 (its routinely 100+ in the summer). Madrid can vary a lot - is usually somewhat cooler than southern Spain but will definitely not be summer temps - probably more springlike. Except for resorts people in Spain seem to dress somewhat more formally than most Americans - you won't see shorts etc in the cities except on children.

I was in Sevilla for Semana Santa one year and on Friday, 5 Apr it was 90F. It was hot!
Cadiz will be warm. Madrid will be less so. In Madid you'll want to dress up a little more. Madrilenhos don't 'dress down.'
Expect some showery weather in Cadiz & Sevilla. That's their 'rainy season.'

As a general answer to my methods, first I'd check historic weather websites and get an idea of the range of temperatures for your dates and cities. Then pack clothing that layers well. I love knit pants or skirts, tanks, tops, silk cardigan sweater, jacket, etc. that you can pile on or strip down as the weather varies.
If you experience something totally unexpected (two words)... go shopping! I picked up a bunch of nice shorts in Switzerland last summer when there was an unexpected heatwave.
Feliz luna de miel ;-)
