What pension in Bacharach?
Can you help me to decide between Pension Lettie and Pension Dettmar in Bacharach? They offer similar rooms, prices. We shall not have a car, so I want to know which of them is:
- closer to railway station
- closer to centre of the town
- closer to Rhine
- has a better view

We have stayed in Bacharach two times with a group of 30 students at the Stahleck youth hostel. Prices are very reasonable and the hosts are great. The view is wonderful (depending on your room location). It is however about a 15 minute walk uphill from the train station. If you have heavy baggage it would be difficult. Also, the trail is not lit at night, so you would need a flashlight.
The stahleck is a 12th century castle that has been retrofitted with modern amenities. There is a cafeteria, games room, meeting rooms etc. It is easy to find on the web - but an uphill challenge to physically get to. If you are capable of the hike I think it will be worth it for you.

Valtor,
I stayed in a Ferienwohnung (vacation apartment) in Bacharach for two weeks a few years ago...LOVED the town.
Although I don't have personal experience with either of the Pensions you list, I looked at bothe their websites:
www.hotel-ami.de/pension/lettie (no english) and
www.hotel-pension-dettmar.de (excellent pictures AND english descriptions).
Detmar on Oberstrasse seems the better location to me--100 meters to RR station, 100 meters to center of old town and 200 meters to boat landing.
I personally would favor this location, and not closer to the RR, as that might be noisy.
I also travelled by train. The town is flat and easy to traverse in under 30 minutes from end to end.
There is a suburb (forget the name) accessible uphill and through the main stone arch with a few nice restaurants too.
Have great fun!

Thank you so much, R. I wrote to both of tehm, only Lettie answered. I also found great recommendation about her in internet and I think I took this. She is speaking English.
I also booked an apartm. in Cochem for 4 nights.
I hope to have agreat vacation!
