What is "half-board"?

As I do hotel reesearch I have come across the term "half board" and do really understand what it means. PLease help me clear up this question.

One meal is included. Probably dinner, although this varies.

Half board is actually 2 meals, either breakfast + dinner or breakfast + lunch. Full board is 3 meals a day.

It usually involves breakfast and dinner. Sometimes lunch can be substituted for dinner, depending upon the flexibility of the hotel owner.

I found half-board can be a good deal if you don't mind eating in the same place everyday--and they have great food. Suppose it depends on the place, but when I did it, I found that I saved considerably over the menu prices. It more than covered the overpriced breakfast and the dinner was less as well.
