What are you favorite restaurants near the Spanish Steps?
We're staying at Hotel Mozart near the Spanish Steps. What your some of your favorite restaurants/ gelato in walking distance to the Spanish Steps?

McDonalds
seriously this is unlike any McDonalds you've been in.
There actually have an Italian food bar - a deli and a special gelato counter as well
Most Italians however are at the Big Mac counter ordering the usual hamburger fare.
But this is my favorite restaurant there and i'm a vegetarian so i like the deli and quick service and low prices.

I generally avoid eating close to the SS. If you are willing to walk 20 minutes, on Via di Ripetta there are several moderately priced and very good Roman trattorie. One of these is Buca di Ripetta and the other is Trattoria Gran Sasso. Both are close to Pza del Popolo. You could try Nino's a few steps from the S Steps...I will not guarantee that you will like it..the food is Tuscan and the staff are not always at their bets when serving tourists during the early seatings.
Matricinella is not far from the SSteps...see my Rome food report for a report on my meals there last winter. I will top it for you.

You might try Fiascheteria (sp?) Beltrami (sp?) on via della Croce, a block or two from Piazza Spagna. Abbachio Scottaditto is fine. Also, just off via Margutta is Ristorante Adi (sp?), a nice local place. And across the Corso and several blocks north is 'Gusto, a big, bustling place where you can go from a plate of cheese and a glass of wine to a full bore meal. THE place for Rome's young gliteratti after ten PM.

Edy on Via del Babuino. It's on one of the little side streets by the Spanish steps. We went their twice and both times enjoyed the food and atomosphere, both inside and out. We'll probably go there again when we're back in a couple of weeks.
