wedding in Switzerland

Hi - I have been invited to a wedding in Basel, Switzerland in August. It is a church wedding (starts at 1600) and dinner follows at the Goldenen Sternen. I've never been to a wedding in Switzerland so any suggestion as far as what I should or should not wear?

I would ask the person who invited you. That way you can know for sure if it is a formal affair, conservative, casual, etc.

I agree, just knowing it's in Switzerland isn't enough to answer your question. Although maybe Goldenen Sternen might be a clue, if someone is familiar with that.

Oh yes, I know the Goldenen Sternen. Had excellent lunch there a couple of weeks ago. It is one of the oldest and finest restaurants in Basel, in the St. Alban quarter, a few hundred meters east from the city centre. Very good location right by the Rhine river.

I think you should dress up. Bring your pearls

Hi swissradpoon,

Just a guess -- dress as if your boss' boss were taking you to his/her country club for dinner.

Yup, pearls. Pants suit would be ok, I think, but a dress would be better.

Remember that Switzerland remains a very traditional country, and I've seen a few real Channel suits on matrons next to me in restaurants . . .
