Hi everyone!
My husband and I are planning a trip for our wedding anniversary but need your help with choosing the right destination. It has to be in Europe because we will be in London the week before our anniversary (mid-July). We are in our late twenties and looking for something romantic and fun at the same time. Would you recommend a big city or a resort with a lot of activities? Any other suggestions?

Gee, Sirine, it really depends on what you guys like (city or resort) what your budget is & how long you plan on spending-not to mention what you've already seen.

There's a fairly recent thread here entitled something like "Help me spend my bonus..." which lists a bunch of high end weekend type destinations in England with boutique hotels that has some great ideas.

Another idea would be to go to skyscanner.com-a website that lists discount airlines & their routes. If you plug in London as your departure point you can see where you can fly from there (and for how much) that may prompt some ideas.

Two suggestions:
1. either Paris or Venice.

2. either Venice or Paris.

London is a pretty romantic city, IMO, esp walks along the Thames and seeing the city at night. Other than that, I would say go north to Scotland or go over to Ireland. Mainland Europe will be hot in July, but Scotland will be at its best -- esp in terms of the orthern lights and it will be light until 10 pm or so. Edinburgh is great for a few days of city visiting, and then head for the highlands for hiking, golfing or scotch tasting. There are lots of romantic B&Bs and castles in both Scotland and Ireland. In Ireland you could do a bike trip either in the Dublin area or parts further afield. Ireland may be a bit warmer than Scotland but still pleasant.

Also consider Wales and the Costwald area in England, very charming with beautiful countryside.

Thank you so much for your suggestions, however I realized that I should have given you a LOT more information. Here goes...
We plan on spending up to a week in Europe and the budget is not an issue. As for our preference between city or resort, we really don't mind. We would like a mix of activity and relaxation, we like all kinds of sports but would like to avoid museums and mansions.
Paris and Venice are great cities for romance, but I was born and raised in Paris and we've been back several times (also been to Cote D'Azur and Alps). We've also been to Venice and explored most of Italy. As for England, we went to Bath & Costwalds area for our anniversary last year. We went on a cruise of the Greek Islands & Turkey for our honeymoon. Been to Spain & Portugal. We'd like to avoid beaches since we live in Bermuda. See...Now you can understand our dilemma...why it's not so easy to pick a destination...We would really like to try something new.
I still appreciate any ideas you may have.

just so we're clear, you want to go to europe, but you're ruling out beaches and places you've already visited: greece, turkey, italy, france, spain, portugal, england, and "the alps". and you're apparently not too excited about scotland or ireland........

does frankfurt turn your crank?

What about Prague? OR somewhere in Switzerland? Or maybe Vienna?

There's lots more to England besides the Cotswolds & Bath. What about the Peak district or the Lake district or Yorkshire for walking/hiking? Are you golfers? What about Cicerone's idea of Scotland? Another idea-go to luxurylink.com & see if anything there interests you.

I'd vote for Prague or Austria as well.

Never said I wasn't excited about Scotland or Ireland, just wanna keep an open mind.
