Flying this September 11

I would like to book a flight flying from Chicago to Rome this September 11. I have no hesitations about flying on September 11. The only concern I have is low booking so flights start to get cancelled and schedules are changed. I flew in March during the war and they did cancel my return flight, forcing me on an earlier flight making it pretty inconvenient. Did anyone fly last September 11 and remember if there were major changes in schedule that day?

We flew within the States from Miami to Reno on Sept. 11 last year. The significance never even clicked with me until after we had booked. The flights were reasonably full and I was unaware of anything out of the usual that day.

I flew from Hong Kong to Paris and onwards to Venice on 9/11 last year, I didn't notice anything unusual, and there were no changes in schedules either.

Thank you for your responses. It makes me feel better about booking that day.

We flew Savannah - Rome last 9/11. No problem. Thought later that was the reason there were seats to be had using Skymiles.

If there really IS a "low booking" phenomenon on September 11th then the terrorists really DID win after all, didn't they! Giving in to this sort of psycho stuff is exactly what they want.

I think that low bookings probably have as much do do with worries about the economy, and perhaps the fallen value of the dollar in Europe these past months as they do with terrorism fears. Sure, these days, travel can be full of inconvenient surprises, but it's best to enjoy the fact that you can afford to go!

I don't think the date of Septemberr 11th will particularly affect your travel plans, unless it involves pausing to remember. Maybe I'll see you on the plane, as i will be flying over around then.
