Weather Positano & Capri in September
Was looking into holiday September 2013 for Positano & Capri. Would love to be able to use the pools/beaches. Is the weather still bathing suit worthy at that time of year? Could do August but concerned of crowds from vacationing Italians as well as others. Any guidance would be greatly appreciated. Thank you, LisaS

Lisa: I was there last September and will be elsewhere in the south later this month. It is generally a great month for southern Italy, although you do need to prepare for rain in the second half of the month.
Sea swimming is possible, as waters are still warm, even late in the month. There will be plenty of people on the beach.
I wore sleeveless tops during the days, and bathing suits at the beach. Swimming pools will be open but if they are non-heated, they may be cold. (Almost all will be non-heated, except at the top-price-tier hotels, and even then, only a few have heated pools)
There are still plenty of tourists, but not nearly as many as in August, when I would not venture to that area, due to hordes of other travelers being there as well! Local buses are crowded in September, and services are cut back from their peak in high summer. But there is far less traffic on the roads, although weeekends can bring traffic jams.
It is quite a bit cooler in the hills, so take note if you plan to visit/stay in Ravello, Furore, or other town above the coast.

We were there two years ago the last 10 days of September. The weather was nearly perfect other than one day of rain. We didn't swim but we saw many who did. I think it is an ideal time to go. Of course, you have to expect weather variations from year to year

Warm enough for swimming - but most of the beaches are not that much (pebbles or even rocks versus sand - and then usually mobbed by people on rented chairs - for the small beach areas that there are in most of th e towns. If swimming is important I would make sure of the info on your hotel' pool?
