Weather in Venice/Rome for New Years?

Trying to narrow down our choices for New Years this year and was wondering what the weather would be like at this time of the year in Venice/Rome.

Thanks

I visited Venice on Boxing Day one year and it was horribly cold. It was sunny and cold on the mainland but freezing fog out in the lagoon. We took a walking tour which had to keep being interrupted for people to have a coffee to thaw out.

Rome could be rainy but shouldn't be as cold.

My experience was the same as Caroline's--VERY cold and damp in Venice, but much warmer (although a little rainy) in Rome. I was there from Christmas thru the first week of January.

Wintery. See www.worldclimate.com or www.weatherbase.com

Remember... Venice is further north than Toronto or Minneapolis.

Best wishes,
