Weather in Spain and Portugal in March

What is the weather like in Spain and Portugal during March? My dad says it will be cold. I was hoping for warmer weather. Any advice on clothing to pack would be appreciated.

that depends largely on where in Spain you are, the temp in the south isnt the same as the temp in the north. I wouldn't pack my swim suit though....

I have done Iberia 3 times in March and it is very iffy. You will have to be far south and lucky to get warm. Madrid and centro Spain is high and cold.

Bob is right about Madrid. We were there mid-March and it was damp and chilly. We headed down to Seville and Grenada and then into the Algarve and up to Lisbon and after Madrid it warmed up considerably - into the 70s and even the low 80's the days we were in Lisbon. I think that was an early warm spell but definitely spend more time south if you want to increase your chances of warm weather. However, even in south at night we needed a jacket.

The last stop of our itinerary was back to Madrid and it was still chilly 2 weeks later there. I'd suggest bringing things you can layer. Maybe a raincoat/jacket with lining that you can lighten up as you go south.

Looking back over our photos of the last 10 years in Costa del Sol we always seem to have shorts on during the day.At night usually a sweater or light jacket. Hope this helps.

Thanks for all your responses. We will probably head to the Canary Islands for the warm weather and pack jackets for Madrid (we're gonna have to skip Portugal this time). Thanks again.

As a side note...I would pack more than a light jacket. I was in Madrid and Lisbon last March and just took a "light jacket" at the suggestion of others, and I was FREEZING the whole time. Take my advice--take a heavy sweater and a jacket--both.
