Never stayed at this hotel before but passed in front of it many times while
visiting Lyon myself 3 times this year.
Good location and most places of interests are within walking distance.
a few minutes walk to Place de Terreau,
the opera house, 10 minutes to the old town (UNESCO World Heritage)crossing one of the bridges on the Saone. (the hotel is situated in the presqu'ile between Saone and Rhone rivers. ). I stayed at other othels in the neiborhood. To my hotels always I was coming from the Perrache Railway Station on foot with my light luggage
(20 min walk). On the way, there is this vast square "Place Bellcour"where you can get free city map at the tourist infomation. Also if you are interested, try to find the statue of Saint-Exupery who wrote "Little Prince",on this square. It took some time for me to find it because it was put modestely at one edge of the square. The prince himself is on the shoulder ofMr Saint-Exupery. The statue is there only since 2000 celebrating his 100th anniversary. He was Lyonnais.Restuarants are everywhere including your hotels neibourhood, Mercier(spell?) street and in the old town, quite touristy but still many good restaurants there, some good 3 course local menus incl.house wine for 13 euro or something. Or gourmet dinner for 50 euro or more. On the way back to your hotel after dinner, you will see the beautifully illuminated basilique on the hill of the old town. Sunday morning, there are markets on the river banks of Saone(to the old town). Hotel side is food and flower, so crowded you can't move but interesting. The old town side is art and artisan. Less crowded and may find small uniques souvenirs. Walked to Croix-Rousse and on the way down found a very steeple
/narrow stairs almost from top to the river side, which was a discovery for me. I never found this passage when I visited Lyon years ago.
If you get other questions, pls ask.I or others might know the answers.

Nori's feedback is great. Also, take the funicular up to Fouvier (the cathedral on the hill) for a great view. Walk down past the Roman ruins and stop and look around. Check to see if anything of interest is being performed while you are there.

Lyon is a great city. You'll have a wonderful time and you don't need a car. My favorite eating is in Vieux Lyon (Old Lyon). Be sure to try a Salad Lyonnaise.

Thanks for your kind words, Rich (and Grasshopper). I appreciate them especilly as I'm new here.

So are you leaving soon for Lyon ?
I will be interested to read your report
afterwards.

I was in Lyon last weekend just for one night. I did nothing special, just a usual strolling around and a little shopping looking for a birthday gift for a friend. Had lunch at an Alsacian restaurant called Brasserie de Bondy on the river side,Quai de Bondy, old town side of the Saone and close to Saint Paul railway station. The waiters were friendly and the daily 3 course menu I had for 12 euro was huge. Salad and
main dish so big, I had to ask to change the included dessert to an espresso. Often I read in this forum the potions of foods are so small in Europe compared to US but it wasn't at this Brasserie.

Awaiting your trip report.

How far West has this occurred? Anywhere near Italy or Lyon France? Appreciate any info since the media are doing such a skimpy job on reporting this horrific event.

Yes, what's happening in Eastern Europe countries is terrible. I have been to Praha 5 times in Winter and Spring. I loved the city. Definitely one of the most beautiful cities I have been to.

Fortunately Western part of Europe, namely France and Switzerland(where I live) are spared of this extreme situation. Don't know about Italy but I haven't heard anything serious there this time although northern Italy sometimes do have flood problems.

Another thing I did and liked in Lyon. Found this wine-bar in front of la Gare Saint-Paul,near the alsacien brasserie I mentioned above,at one end of the old town street. Maybe only 15 seating inside. We chose to sit at the street side terrace. We were not so hungry so we decided at early dinner time to have a few glasses of good wines + ham and cheese assortiment to go with. Wines are not house wines but good quality ones served in glass for tasting. A knowlegeable waiter gave us a good advices on what to choose. We had a very light meal this way just as we wanted but with 3 kinds of great red,
watching cars and people passing by at sunset hour. It's a good option to have. You don't always want heavy full dinner even when you are in Lyon, a cuisine mecca. The wine-bar was called something like "Cave de voyageurs". Just an idea. (I wonder who is XXX ???)
