If you're looking for 50's, 60's type stuff, there are a few on Portobello Road just before you get to the antique market area (on the left side of the street), as well as two, I believe, just after you exit the Nottinghill tube. Turn right at the corner, the stores are on the right, then cross the street and head for Portobello Road.

Also, Alfie's antique market (look it up in the phone book when you get to London, I'm blanking on the address right now) has a few dealers with vintage clothes.

There are two shops in Chelsea which are famous for their vintage clothing. Can't speak for the prices but they do have the names. Steinberg and Tolkien is on King's Road. Butler and Wilson is on Fulham Road, which is just parallel. If you drew a line running from Fulham Rd. to King's Rd. you'd probably find both of them in roughly the same spot, respectively. If you take the 14 bus from Harrod's, you can get off right near Butler and Wilson and walk down to King's Rd. Antiquarius is on King's Rd. as well.

Head for Camden. There's a large market plus some very individual shops. If you're looking for bargains, you could do worse than try a couple of charity shops. The Cancer Research UK shop in Camden High street is renowned for retro bargains, and has attracted the likes of Madonna and Brad Pitt to rummage through the jumble (and the shop IS a jumble - you go for the bargains, not the ambience).

Also Oxfam has some of their charity shops devoted to designer and retro clothing, called "Oxfam Originals" -check out:

http://www.oxfam.co.uk/shops/original.html

Top Shop (world's largest fashion store) on Oxford Street has a retro clothes section on the Lower Level.
