gracejoan: I had lunch at the Trastevere right down by the water. It was very good - fresh seafood was excellent. There were a couple of small places tucked into the little streets right up from the waterfront which looked very inviting too.

Thanks Barb, I will make a note of it..
Any others from Vieux Nice, Beaulieu and Cap Ferrat?
Do you know if the little shoreline train stops near Vieux Nice??? Just wondering if it would be better to use rather than driving and having to find a parking place...anyone??

The train doesn't stop in Vieux Nice, but it's just a very short bus ride from Villefranche to Nice. The bus station in Nice is about a block from Vieux Nice and is only a few euros. The train is wonderful though and stops in all the little coastal towns. I would never drive there, but that's just me.

The one restaurant in Vieux Nice to which we keep returning is L'Ecurie; you can find the address at pagesjaune.com (I thought I wrote it down but can't find it now). Another good spot is Don Camillo, on the short street seaward of the Cours Saléya.
Not far from Vieux Nice, over by the modern art museum, is a terrific seafood restaurant to which we were introduced by French friends. It's called Café Turin and is very popular with the locals; so reserve well in advance.
Driving shouldn't be a problem, as there's a large underground lot at the Cours Saléya and another across the street from the Café Turin.
Bon appétit!

How long will you be staying there??
Rob and Mandy said that they will be there sometime in July..so..either before or after you. I gave them the address of Jean Pierre Silva's restaurant..they want to give it a try too.....
I will be looking forward to your trip report upon your return!!!

In Beaulieu-sur-Mer, La Pignatelle, 10 rue Quincenet. Charming little place, garden atmosphere, great food and nice people.
The popular African Queen, and the other restaurants down in the yacht harbor are overrated, in my opinion.

Joan, we will be there for one week. Our trip starts with two nights in Rome, a week at an apartment in Sorrento, then a week in Villefranche-sur-mer at the apartment there, ending with four nights in Paris before returning home.
I will keep checking here for more suggestions - I will spend hours doing research and adding new places to my lists! I will definitely report back on the trip to France and tell you all about the apartment when we return.
