Cannes to Nice?
We will be on a cruise ship in September that docks for one day in Cannes.
We have been to this area before, and don't want to take any of the ship's excursions.
However, we never really spent time in Nice and would like to visit the Matisse museum and see some of the city.
Is it a problem to travel there from Cannes?
Does anyone know if a bus or train is convenient from the port in Cannes?
Or - should we forget about Nice and just meander around Cannes?
(We have been to Eze, Villefranche, and some of the beautiful hill towns.)
Thanks in advance for any help.
Sylvia

I took the train from Cannes to Nice. Check out the French train website, http://www.sncf.com/indexe.htm and put in your city pairs for travel times, schedule, etc. Once in Nice, I took a local bus down from the train station to Place Massena (the main bus terminal area). From Place Massena, you can hop on another local city bus up to the Cimiez district (in the hills above Nice, where the Matisse museum is) as well as view the Roman ruins right next door. If you arrive in Nice before noon, don't miss the Cours Saleya open market in Vieux Nice (daily until approx. 1 pm) for some wonderful fruit, meats, cheeses, pastries, souvenirs, etc. Enjoy Nice and have fun!

Thanks, both of you. We've seen so much Picasso lately that I think we'll go for the longer trip to Nice.
Now, if only the Matisse museum were in Antibes . . .
And it all looks very beautiful!
