Very interesting website on paris..comments?

http://www.anamericaninparis.com/guide.html

I am just curious. There is a lot of information here. I want to know if anyone here has used the website for info on hotels, etc.

Thanks

Yes. Mr. Melnick is big big on the AOL Paris forum as well Frommers. I'd trust the list of comments because the comments are from his forum's members

He writes well. I enjoy his site.

Hi lois,

I didn't see anything on hotels. The etc's seem to be reliable.

As I recall, he used to post here a lot and ask people to email him for more info...and then he would ask them for a $$ donation for the info. That didn't sit too well with many posters and he left his forum.

Seems ok, but wondering about his restaurant recommendations...the places look fine, but I wonder why he puts "say hello for me to XXXX"? Is he getting a commission/free meal to recommend these places?

I don't think much of him and don't think he writes well at all. His web site is quite amateurish and he never bothers to even edit or correct it. For example, he has some erroneous information on it and doesn't even spell some words correctly. He doesn't know much about Paris, he goes and does the same thing every time and stays in the same place.

He is also unethical in that he does ask people for money and has solicited business on here and many other web sites unasked. H He has emailed people bothering them when they haven't asked him to email them.

He only participates on web sites to make money and get business for his web site. I believe he got banned from this web site because he was advertising and soliciting business, but he had no interest in just posting on here because he was interested in travel or liked to help people or discuss travel, as most of us do. When his business name got banned, he came back trying to solicit business again by changing the spelling slightly, and when he got bounced again, he stopped coming because that was the only reason he was here, as I said.

He is still around on some web sites, advertising, but he just posts a couple canned comments he has saved to respond to every post so that he can post his business name and ask people to email him. When they do, he asks for money. He has one post he makes to any question about weather, another he posts about any question regarding where to stay, etc. Any post that doesn't fit into those categories, he won't respond because he isn't interested if it takes his time.

On top of that, he doesn't know what he's talking about a lot of the time and gives some erroneous information. In sum, I don't think much of him.

My short opinion is, I pretty much agree with Christina. Years ago I thought that some of the info there was useful, but it is seldom if ever updated or corrected, and I never did understand his insisting to tell the restaurant owners hello for him.

BTilke, Christina and Elaine have accurately reported on its past history in relation to this site.
