Tell us more. Aside from your horrible room experience, how were the gardens, museum, lunch, the town, etc. Do you recommend spending the night in Vernon? PS, in spite of being a National Merit Scholarship winner, I've spent most of my lift being known as an airhead. Sometimes it's fun!!!

That is the saddest part of the whole tale, that I didn't get to go to the gardens!!! I was easily able to resolve this, however, because my boyfriend was not with me so it would have only been half as spectacular. We will definitely go back in spring.
I would not stay in Vernon the next time, but probably just do it as a day trip from Paris. The town is a little too small for my tastes. I would have been much happier getting back to the big city in time for dinner and a moonlit stroll. The train ride to Vernon is only about 45 minutes if you do the express, an hour if you do the commuter.
There is a pizza place just down from the tourism office called Pizzéria Pamukkale, at 50, rue Carnot. A very quaint, cobblestone block is there with a fabulous patisserie, where I tried my first cammelé. At the pizzeria I had the Pizza Normandie with bacon, cheese, onions, and an egg broken over the top. Their pizzas are single-serving but large enough to share with a friend. The crust was thin thin thin -- just the way I love it!

Thanks. I've been deliberating whether to drive out, do a garden and museum visit and spend the night or take a day trip from Paris. I had read those were expensive and lengthy. Maybe I need to read more.

What is too expensive and lengthy? The train ride? RT Gare St. Lazare to Vernon would come to about 30 USD and under an hour each way. You can walk to Monet's gardens from the station in Vernon if you're up for it or take a cab or rent a bike. I am definitely planning on taking the walk when we go.
