Snob-simply because the NY Times said that's how much THEY paid for their dinner, doesn't mean that is what others paid, or that it is an average meal, and I CERTAINLY did not pay that for mine! The thing I liked is that I could order just a little, and was NOT made to feel that I needed to order more. As it was, for everything, it came to about $60 per head (and that's with wine and grappa)-QUITE a bit less that in the article.
And added plus was that it was modern, sophisticated, a lovely location, a lot of Italian couples having dinner,(one needs a break from the osterie thing just to see what else is going on there). A cool nightspot, and a great new place in Venice to go late night.
And as far as Vino Vino goes, if you want the bacaria/osteria atmosphere-then that's a place to go-however, I was there in March, and a lot of people with guidebooks were there- the food was okay, if you got there early when they put it out. It didn't do a thing for me, and I do speak Italian, so that wasn't a problem.

Spygirl, thanks for much for all the helpful info. I shall take you up on your recommendation : I certainly don't want to risk trying anywhere with no food left, when we're eating late ! We're there for a week so Centrale sounds something different & fun for one night. Can't wait !

Thanks to Snob and Spy...some interesting new destinations to check out when I get back there in August. We are NY nightowls and always on the prowl for something new; Centrale escaped my attention until now.
As a PS to my previous post, the 4am place was at an art gallery in an old boat house over by the Aresenale. Can not remember the name of the place and I'm told was/is something of a "private party." [As in private to anyone who'll hand over 15 euro on their way in!]
