Acqua Pazza - Campo San. Angelo 3808/10 in San Marco, and Masaniello - Campo San Stefano, 2801 in San Marco.

Both wonderful restaurants run by the same famly. At Acqua Pazza be sure and order the house appetizer - a large platter full of wonderful seafood, vegetables, etc.

Do you know about this site? It's been very helpful to me in my Italy restaurant planning:

I agree with jgg on Acqua Pazza. It was our best dining experience in Venice. Homemade Lemoncello and an orange and stawberry version too. Mmmm, Mmmm!

Greetings jgg;

your recommendation of Acqua Pazza has caught my attention, particularly homemade lemoncello (in venice?). Ok with me!

And a platter of seafood to boot! What is the pricing at this restaurant. Going with the Man and my monther & niece we will need to mix in an eye for economy.

Thanks.

Another vote for Acqua Pazza. We had a lot of fun at this restaurant. It is run by "Big Antonio." At least that is what Mateo at our hotel called him, and the description fit. We had a fried vegetable antipasta that was very good. After dinner, Antonio saw me looking curiously at another diner's dessert so he said "You must let me bring you one of those." He delivered the most exiquisite plate of gelato, each piece in the fruit or nut from which it got its flavor(walnut in walnut shell, banana in a small banana peel, etc). If memory serves, the prices were moderate.

I'll also vote for Acqua Pazza - but also try Zucca in Santa Croce. You will need to book and you must be on time or they don't keep your table (they run 2 sittings). Another great traditional and excellent restaurant is Da' Ignazio in San Polo. For lunch Cavatappi in San Marco is fabulous.

Eating cheaply in Venice is not easy - but you are much more likely to do well away from San Marco. We frequented Birraria in Campo San Polo (excellent pizzas, pasta etc) or Da Sandro near Rialto for reasonably priced meals.

Delvino: In terms of price, my notes say large seafood platter was $25, and included: calamari, mussels, clams, anchovies, shrimp, fried artichoke hearts, fried fish, baby octopus, and wonderful smoked salmon w/ capers and onion, and an awesome fried salmon & mozzerella. Prior to the platter some of the best bruschetta we had was served. There was a ton of food! It was my husband and I and our two kids. My daughter ate a fair amount of food from the platter, my son didn't eat everything on there but definitely some. For two people it could definitely be a meal!

We also ordered a pizza and tortellini with mussels and shrimp. After the platter we didn't really think we needed the other food, but it was delicious too. I don't recall the prices of the other food, but I would agree with Suki that it is moderate.

Thank you all.

MaryK, its particularly helpful when you indicate the sestre that the restaurant is in and noted all of these recommendation within the map on the appropriate sestre.

Thanks.

I see my two favorites -- La Zucca and Acqua Pazza -- have already been listed. (Is it possible everyone found them via Orseolo?)

I've just stumbled upon a restaurant review site for Venice that I'll be using to plan meals on our next trip...you may also find it helpful:

We like Alle Testiere in the Castello district on Calle del Mondo Novo. Tel # 041 52 27220. The owner, Luca, is charming and if you put yourself in his hands, you will not be disappointed.
Cheers,
Jan

Photo taken @Alle Testiere in 2003. (Luca standing, waiter on left, Luca's sommelier friend from nearby restaurant, me in middle w/girlfriends & my mom)

We wound up being the last to leave. Luca brought out a wonderful bottle of wine to share. Food was Great, very pleasant ambience, and Luca was indeed charming!

Hi Theresa, I haven't been there yet but a restaurant that many people have recommended is called Corte Sconta in Castello, Calle del Pestrin 3886
Phone 041-522-7024. I'll be there in four weeks, maybe we'll pass each other!

Definitely agree with the recommendation of Alle Testiere. If you go, you will need reservations - it is tiny and there are 2 seatings for dinner (7 and 9, I think).

Touristy and expensive as it is, I love dinner on the terrace of the Gritti Palace for a special, romantic occasion. We're heading to Venice the first week of June. Can anyone suggest another, similar type atmosphere (canalside, romantic) but perhaps one that is not part of a hotel?

Good calamari at Trattoria al Campanile, right off Campo San Polo.

Have a great trip!
