Venice Hotel

What's a good hotel for my wife and me in central Venice in May?

Fodors recommends Pensione Accademia: any views?

We will be in Venice for one night, then travel to other places; then back for two nights. Somewhere quiet with an elevator would be good.

I'm thinking the better-known hotels are not going to be available in May, kind of short-notice. A lot of hotels are rather small in the number of rooms.

Here are some to try:
<>Hotel Ala (San Marco)
www.hotelala.it/
<>Hotel San Giorgio (San Marco)
www.sangiorgiovenice.com/
<>Palazzo Guardi (Dorsoduro)
www.palazzoguardivenice.com/
<>Locanda Ca' del Brocchi (Dorsoduro)
www.cadelbrocchi.com/

Fitzgibbon, my sister stayed at Pensione Accademia and loved it. I will be staying there in a few weeks myself. I tried to get a room at LaCalcina but it was booked solid, but I would still try. There are always last-minute cancellations. Good luck!

Fitz-I would go to venere.com to get a general overview of hotel room availability for your dates in May-I've stated before, it is not unusual in high season in Venice to have 100 percent hotel capacity, so I'm thinking, as Travelnut, that you're going to have difficulty finding a room, certainly at a hotel of choice, as the most popular locations are booked a year or so in advance-Pensione Accademia, La Calcina, Locanda Orseolo being three I can think of right off the bat that are booked far in advance.

However, for a great bargain hotel steps from the Grand Canal (if you can get in) with just 10 rooms, located in Dorsoduro, right by the Accademia vaporetto stop, is the Hotel Galleria. This too, however, is an extremely popular hotel, with dedicated guests who come back year after year.

Take a look at Metropole Hotel on web. I always enjoy staying on Grand Canal. Close to San Marco.

fitzgibbon,

We had a wonderful stay at the Ca dei Conti, a small hotel in what we thought to be a very good location (Castello, an easy interesting walk to San Marco).

There are just a few rooms, but the ones we had were lovely.

There were four couples in our group, and we all had canal views and large rooms with seating areas.
