We didn't stay there, but did pass it one night--here's the photo: http://www.slowtrips.com/photo/showp...176&page=5
It is very near San Marco piazza, and it's front yard is the parking lots for lots of gondolas.
Take a look at tripadvisor.com for comments: http://www.tripadvisor.com/Hotel_Rev...ce_Veneto.html

Hello, I'm looking at the same hotel, and deciding between the Cavalletto E Doge Orseolo and the Hotel Ala, also a Best Western Hotel.
Should I read into the "cozy" and "traditional" comments I've seen and assume tiny? I ask only because my mother has a hard time walking, and I want to be sure that she'll be as comfortable as possible.
Thanks!

I'm going in mid-July, unfortunately for only 1 day since I had a hard time convincing her to stay an extra night. We're off to Florence and Rome after that, thankfully for 2 nights each.
I'm considering the luggage problem only because we'll be coming off a cruise and have taken a train. I've instead now decided to stay at the Hotel Abbazio, which looks rather charming (and a perfect stroll for me while hauling luggage!). But I want to drop by the Orseolo for my next trip.

I highly recommend a small hotel, Casa Cosmo. There are only 5 or 6 rooms. There's no lift, so that might be a problem. It isn't far from St. Mark's Square and it is lovely and air conditioned and newly renovated. We stayed here last September and the price was very reasonable. Here's the info.http://www.casacosmo.com I personally stayed in the room pictured and it was lovely. The room on the top floor even has a balcony.
