Has anyone stayed at the Albergo Cavelletto E Doge Orseolo ???? Found it through Expedia.

We didn't stay there, but did pass it one night--here's the photo: http://www.slowtrips.com/photo/showp...176&page=5

It is very near San Marco piazza, and it's front yard is the parking lots for lots of gondolas.

Take a look at tripadvisor.com for comments: http://www.tripadvisor.com/Hotel_Rev...ce_Veneto.html

Hello, I'm looking at the same hotel, and deciding between the Cavalletto E Doge Orseolo and the Hotel Ala, also a Best Western Hotel.

Should I read into the "cozy" and "traditional" comments I've seen and assume tiny? I ask only because my mother has a hard time walking, and I want to be sure that she'll be as comfortable as possible.

Thanks! :)

Not sure about size of hotel, but I know they have a/c--will need it in July.Did you look at the trip advisor comments ?

Of course! First place I looked :) Both have mixed reviews. My mother wants near St. Marks Square since walking is hard for her, so Orseolo it is. Will let you know the particulars.

mcnyc-when are you going ?? The pics that Lorac took of the hotel and the ones I have seen are pretty. I think that every place we are staying has mixed reviews !! hAHA Good luck !! Hope you have a GREAT trip !!!!!

I'm going in mid-July, unfortunately for only 1 day since I had a hard time convincing her to stay an extra night. We're off to Florence and Rome after that, thankfully for 2 nights each.

I'm considering the luggage problem only because we'll be coming off a cruise and have taken a train. I've instead now decided to stay at the Hotel Abbazio, which looks rather charming (and a perfect stroll for me while hauling luggage!). But I want to drop by the Orseolo for my next trip. :)

We are going mid July also--will be in Venice the 14-16. I can hardly wait--I think I counted 55 days to go !!!(We are starting in Rome). We will have to compare notes afterward. LOL Wishing you a great trip !!!! ((f))

Hi dragonflymom! I'm going to be there July 17! Is it really so far away?

But definitely, we'll have to compare notes! :) Have a wonderful trip, and we'll all connect back here!

I highly recommend a small hotel, Casa Cosmo. There are only 5 or 6 rooms. There's no lift, so that might be a problem. It isn't far from St. Mark's Square and it is lovely and air conditioned and newly renovated. We stayed here last September and the price was very reasonable. Here's the info.http://www.casacosmo.com I personally stayed in the room pictured and it was lovely. The room on the top floor even has a balcony.
