Venice-Florence train travel

I'm looking at the Trenitalia site for travel between Venice and Florence in January. When I search for a specific day only one option comes up. Multiple options are shown when looking at dates over the next week or so. I've read on these boards that you can purchase tickets a day or so in advance in Venice and Florence (also train from Florence-Rome), but wanted to do some pre-planning. Am I looking in the wrong area, or are there only a few trains each day in January? Thanks for the help.

I'm going to venture to guess that there's something wrong with the Trenitalia website right now. It's midnight in Italy on a Saturday night right now - maybe they are mucking with it. I checked a few trains and what I saw didn't make sense either - only trains leaving very early in the morning.

Try again later on tonight or tomorrow. Surely there are plenty of trains a day going between Venice and Florence in January.

Thanks, Andrew. It's just my over-planning kicking into gear (first trip with daughter). I'll check in a day or two.

I remember reading somewhere, perhaps it was here, that trenitalia often dosen't post full schedules more than 60 or 90 days out.

Schedules on routes like Venice-Florence change very little from month to month, so it would be a relatively safe assumption that what you see for the next few weeks will also be there in January.

You could also try the German site www.bahn.de and see if they have a more complete schedule for Jan.

Unless you're traveling before Jan. 3, it won't show up yet on Trenitalia. You can only book 60 days ahead. If you want to get prices, you can put in an earlier date with the connections you want to see what it will cost.

Jean - There are usually 2/3+ trains per hour throughout the day on the Naples-Rome route.

The timetable on Dec 30 is likely to be similar to the current daily one.

Put in tomorrow's date to get an idea of frequency of ES/IC/AV trains.

Hope this helps ...

Trains on main routes in Italy are frequent. You'll have no problem buying a ticket at the station before you travel - either the same day or the day before.
