Vehicle for Self Drive Tour-3 couples

Six of us will be traveling together in April. Does anyone have a recommendation for a rental vehicle? Each person will have small piece of luggage plus an airline carry one size piece of luggage. Suggestions for a vehicle and a rental company would be appreciated. We will fly into Dublin.

That's a LOT of people and luggage.

To many of us, anything larger than a carryon is not a "small" piece of luggage, so could you clarify just what there will be besides 6 carryon-size pieces?

I think you will need to start doing a web search of all the major rental companies to see if any have a vehicle that will hold 6 adults - and then start on the luggage question. For Ireland you may want to conisder 2 cars rather than a full size van for 2 reasons.

Driving a very large vehicle on such small roads - especially on the "wong" side - might be quite challenging.

Do all six of you really want to be joined at the hip for the entire trip? Wouldn't it be convenient some days for smaller groups to go in different directions? (The only time we travelled as 6 we found this worked very well - especially when the guys wanted to play golf and the women preferred a museum.)

nytraveler is right on target. Get 2 midsize cars and you'll enjoy the trip much more. Good luck.

DEFINITELY rent two small (or a small and a mid-sized) cars. Not only will you have more room, more flexibility day to day, and an easier time getting around on the NARROW roads -- but two smaller cars will cost substantially less than a huge people mover or van.

With that many people, DEFINITELY rent two cars. Being joined at the hip to 5 other people is bound to get claustrophobic, and pretty quickly too. 2 cars, 2 cars, 2 cars!

If you need a vehicle for 6 try http://rentacar-europe.com/
they show a Mercedes van for 9. I would think with 6 you would have plenty room for luggage.

you don't give your itinerary, but it isn't easy to split up into two cars and try to keep up with each other. I'd stick together with the van as suggested above.

Regarding traveling in 2 separate cars.... some friends of mine did this with a group of 6 also, and they took with them some of those really neat Motorola-type walkie talkies. Worked great for keeping in contact when one of the cars needed to make a pit stop, or just wanted to take a side tour...all they had to do was call ahead on the walkie talkie, and they didn't have any problems getting separated.
