USING THE ATM'S IN FRANCE...HELP!!!

When using the ATM's in France I'm told to look for Carte Bleu (for VISA) or PLUS (for my other bank card). What are the French words for Chequing and savings? Any other vocab I need to know so I'm not stumped and can't get money out?

Most ATM machines will let you select English for your transactions so you should have no problem. I don't believe you are able to choose between checking or savings so you might want to make arrangements before leaving for France.

First of all, check with your US bank. You can usually only withdraw from checking overseas. Most ATMs are multilingual. You get a choice of languages on the opening screen.

Don't panic! The ATM's are very simple to use. As mentioned there are many language choices and it's as easy to use as when you're at home.

Also you should have a 4 digit pin # If it's longer it may not work. I think you can only withdraw money from checking. And tell your bank you're going so you don't have problems.

You will have no trouble finding ATM's in Paris. They are everywhere. Check to see if your bank charges for using them so you can deduct the charges from your accout - our credit union doesn't charge.

Regarding the PIN # -- make sure that you use numbers, not letters, as they may be different on their key pads. We have only a four digit number and that has never been a problem, any where, including Tanzania. Also, be aware of your bank withdrawl limit per day.
