There are often substantial discounts for advance purchase. The website for German rail travel is http://www.bahn.de/i/view/USA/en/index.shtml.

Fares start at just 29 euros if you pre-book, they are much more expensive on the day.

Simply use www.bahn.de to buy tickets and print them out!

A key point is that you have to present the credit card you used to purchased the ticket at the same time you give the ticket to the ticket checker. They run the credit card through a hand held device. Bahn is very easy to use.

Hi Millie_Bennett,

I live in Bavaria and frequently buy tickets from bahn.de; it is easy to use and to understand!

I do want to correct one common misperception. While you are going through the process of buying your tickets online, you will be asked to designate a credit card to use for identification. You may use the same cc you used to pay for your ticket, but you don't have to designate the same one.

I always use one cc for all my travel purchases, but when I'm travelling, that cc is tucked away in a hidden wallet. So I've always designated another cc as my piece of identification, and it's never been a problem.

Have fun!
