up in the air about Paris hotels

My DH and I are going to Paris next April.I've narrowed the hotel selection to either the D'aubusson or the Relais Saint Germain-both for junior suites. The D'aubusson is a bit more expensive.Any feedback as to neighborhoods, sizes of rooms, ambiance, personal service? Your help would be appreciated,as I am having a tough time selecting the" best" choice. Thanks so much.

We have stayed in both hotels. The Aubusson more recently and the Relais St. Germain a few years back before the present owner bought the hotel. We liked the Aubusson enough to return several times. It has a bar which turns into a jazz club some nights during the week which may or may not interest you. The rooms were all different, but the larger rooms are very nice. Service was good, they often have packages which include museum passes, champagne on arrival and transport to or from the airport. These are often on their website. Concierge service was excellent The neighborhood is lively and near the Buci market and many restaurants and a short walk to the Seine or the Blvd St. Germain.

My information on the Relais St. Germain is dated. we enjoyed the neighborhood just a block or so off Blvd St. Germain. Our room was large with a sitting area with a great view of the street below. However it was quiet with the windows closed. I don't have current information on service. It is attached to a very popular restaurant next door which I believe gives guests some preference in getting reservations. There are also many restaurants in the neighborhood.

The Relais St Germain is our favorite hotel in Paris. We have stayed there many times, the most recent in March. We stay in a deluxe room, actually the same room for all but one visit, and it has an area for the bed and then a sitting area. The bathroom in that room is small but in the other room as I remember it was larger. I am not one for toiletries but cigalechanta was impressed by the quality.

I don't know if the Relais has any of the packages that you describe. We always book directly and that is not something we have asked about. I don't know the Aubusson but it sounds like a larger place then the Relais. There is a small desk which is always manned and the people have been pleasant and helpful. They have made reservations for us which has really been all that we require being sort of do-it-yourself kind of people.

The location is fabulous! Right around the corner is the Odeon station, within blocks are the Mabillon and St Germain du Pres stops. Also there are several bus routes that run nearby. You can walk to many of the tourist attractions as well as being a few blocks from Luxembourg Gardens. In the neighborhood is Gerard Mulot, the covered St Germain market, Le Dournier Goutte wine shop as well as many restaurants. The hotel provides a provanced breakfest with ham, cheese, yougurt, fruit, boiled eggs, juice as well as croissants and bread. The other benefit of the Relais St Germain is reservations to their restaurant, Le Comptoir, for dinner. They also will hold tables for you for the lunch service.
I hope that gives you enough information for comparison. I will see if I can dig up the photos we took from our first visit-since we stayed in the same room there has been no point in taking others.

Thank you both so much. What we have decided to do is stay at the D'aubusson for 3 nights at the start of our trip and then 2 nights at the end at the Relais Saint Germain. That should take care of dilemna.

I too, often like to stay in more than one place, i.e., more than one experience.

We stayed in D'Aubusson a year ago. We already knew from previous visit to Paris we loved the jazz club. This last time we walked out a few blocks at 10 minutes before the hour to watch the Eiffel Tour light up. D'Aubusson is not far from the closest Pont. Their service is good. If it's hot, their courtyard is shaded and the wine is good.
