Paris: Relais Saint Germain or D'aubusson
Hi All,
Need Advice.
We are a young married couple look for a fun and romantic trip. I am holding two hotel reservations and am so torn. We will be there for 5 nights 6 days.
Which would you choose:
Twin bedded room at the relais saint germain with private terrace on the inside over looking paris roof tops. ( anyone stayed in this room before?) 300e
or
Splurge on Superior room at D'aubusson.
we like the fact that it has a bar and jazz.
Confused if I should go quaint and charming.. or more luxurious.
How far walking distance are they from each other.. is one in a better location? Is the relais saint germain a "luxurious" hotel?
help!

We've stayed at both hotels, but it's been several years for the Relais Saint Germain and 3 for the D'aubusson. You can walk between the two hotels in 15 minutes or so. The D'aubusson is closer to the Seine and IMHO has a better location if you're a walker. If you take the Metro a lot the Relais St. Germain is closer to the Odeon stop. We stayed at the Relais St. Germain twice but never in the room you describe. Our accomodations there were spacious and nicely decorated. I understand the rooms at the D'aubusson vary a lot. Our "superior" room was small and not even close to being as nice as that in the Relais St. Germain, though overall we liked the hotel a lot. I'd stay in the hotel with the better "deal." You won't go wrong with either.

Cpine1 i just returned yesterday from Paris and stayed at the D'Aubusson [I was there for only 2 nights as I stayed in an apartment for the first week , decided to extend for a couple of extra days and moved to the D'Aubusson] I have not stayed at Relais St Germain so cannot compare, although the terrace sounds tempting. The D'aubusson was lovely and the staff were wonderful [Alexandra, at the front desk, was terrific]. I was in a superior room which actually was quite spacious, by Paris standards anyways. It had a juliet balcony, overlooking Rue Dauphine but was very quiet.
As Marija indicates, both hotels are close to one another and in great locations, many good restaurants in the area. If you are able, you should try Le Comptoir regardless of whether or not you choose to stay at the st Germain.
Have a wonderful trip!

definately the D'aubusson. Great Location. Excellent hotel, stylish but not over the top, nice little bar, easy walking distance to the 5th and accross the river to the Bastille /Marais area. Highly recommend it. Have been going to Paris for 20 years.
