UK Car Hire/Rent URLS help please

Getting read to book a car hire for our upcoming October trip to the UK.

Have previously booked hire cars thru www.nova.co.uk and www.autoeurope.com

Do you always use the same car hire place over and over or do you check around? Please share car hire website and comments good or bad.

Thanks.
Sandy

I've used woods.co.uk with a good experience...

...and in what seems funny to me, I recently received an e-mail from www.bluecarhire.com - - formerly known as bluewheels.com - - asking if I wanted to remain on their e-mail list. I made a single inquiry about this company, something like eight year ago! - - and ended up never renting from them, nor ever making another inquiry since. Something to be said for persistence (of computer memory), huh?

I think my last UK rental (2004) was from National/Europcar, but I don't remember if it was through AutoEurope or not (I think it was).

Best wishes,

Rex

I used autoeurope...booked 3 months ago for an unbelievable rate...we pick the car up in 10 days so I'll let you know if it was truly unbelievable! I got a mid-size wagon (seats 5) with free upgrade (manual) for 6 days for $142....I thought that was GREAT! It doesn't include the $28 fee for renting in London (I have to pay that at the desk, but I won't be driving in London just out and returning at the airport...no xtra fees for doing that)...we'll see!

I shop around - have probaby rented from 10 or 12 different hire companies. Some One-off locations like Baldock's in Windsor, to UK companies like Woods, to all the international firms (Avis, Hertz, Thrifty, Enterprise, Budget, etc). Sometimes through autoeurope, sometime not. Each company is better value for some sites/car classes. In fact - nailing down the best car rates usually take me more time/effort than finding good airfares.

janisj I agree with you about the car hire process best rate taking more time than the flight and by this time into the planning I am getting a bit lazy.

Tara please report back on your rental.

Rex LOL computer memory indeed.

Here's two I got from searching on Fodors but know nothing about them - www.fastcarhire.co.uk and 1st-ukcarrentals.com

Can any one else add to this.

Sandy

We used Enterprise Leasing in Edinburgh a few months ago. They seemed priced competitively w/ others. We had the concierge arrange for it, but later I did a little research to make sure we did not get ripped off.

They do however charge a hefty deposit, that they forgot to refund my AmEX. As soon as I called them and told them they were very apologetic and refunded it immedialtely. It was about $300!!

I used Carjet, in Portugal but they are a UK company.

They are a broker.

Of course, I cannot comment on the prices in the UK, but their customer service is very good. I called them and also emailed them before the trip and was very satisfied with the prompt responses.

Lat time I used Enterprise - good rate, seemed to be only company with an outlet in Durham (England), picked me up and returned me to the railway station. Car wasn't particularly comfortable to drive, but it was a compact/economy - but with automatic transmission.
