I think I am slightly shocked at the fact that there are Fodorites still sitting happily at their PC posting questions and answers about their holidays.

Maybe it's just the way some people deal with shock, maybe it's because they dont think it has any relevance for them.

I mean, I know it isnt like there is a rule that says stop the forum when a tragedy happens, but this just shocks me so much all I can think about is the suffering people are going through and I am weirded out by people who are just thinking about their next trip...

My husband's co. had an office of 25 people in #1 WT Center. The top five guys were here in Houston for a mtg.
The rest were on floor 91, and 94 was where the plane hit.
At first my husband and his co. people here thought all were dead in NYC. They believed that about 40 minutes.
Then someone saw Dan Rather interviewing one of their employees, and they learned that all got down the stairs and out safely. Many cheers in the Houston office ensued.

This is so major and so consequential I cannot comprehend it all. This is way too much like Pearl Harbor for my taste.

Students of American history will recall numerous rallying calls in our past--some more legitimate than others--and they include, Remeber the Alamo, Remember the Maine, Pearl Harbor of course. I didn't vote for Bush either, but at a time like this I will definitely claim him for my president and wish him and all his advisors, and all of us in the Westernized world (who one assumes are all more or less under attack at this point) wisdom, patience and guts.
Sheila

I know.

But I think some of it may be just the way people deal with shock... to pretend its not happening.

Surely anyone coming to this site cant miss the post at the top?

To be honest, its up to people how they deal, its just weirding me out...

I am not claiming that I am thinking rationally though...

Kavey

Kavey: Pls don't condemn others for moving on with their lives. We will all need to do so, sooner than we may want. I wish I could concentrate a little more on work right now, though I can't. The outcome will not be changed by our sitting here fretting (though that is what I am doing). More power to those who can keep on keeping on. I doubt the mean disrespect.

ABC reporter says "lower Manhattan" (below Canal Street) being evacuated. Streets covered with 1/4 to 1/2 inch of ash/soot, like Pompeii.

Also reports that at about the time the South WTC tower collapsed another ABC reporter looked up and saw as many as a dozen people jump from the upper floors of the tower, arms flailing.

Hey, I just said it was weirding me out...
I know people deal differently...

To me, personally, the thought of continuing on as if nothing has happened is weird.

But as I said above, each to their own.

I know in my head that this just may be the way some people react, but my instinctive reaction is just that its weird.

I am not condemning anyone...

I am just expressing out loud I guess the turmoil of thoughts I am feeling...

Kavey

John Miller of abc news says that the terrorists chose the long haul flights so that they have full fuel loads and probably had explosives on board to create the biggest bang possible.

Who can the terrorists be to be so cruel to use civilians as weapons against other civilians???

For some reason when I heard about the tragedy I wondered what the reaction would be like on the Fodors site. Kind of in the same way that my Mother called me and said "what do you think" we all came together here to share our feelings. I just want all of our friends around the world to know how much your support and prayers will mean to America in the coming days and weeks as we deal with the loss.
