Let's leave politics out of it, and rally behind our President -- our Nation -- and hope he has the wisdom and meddle to handle this matter well. For now, though, please continue with the info (for those of us at work). Among all the carnage, one must wonder whether any Fodorites were on one of those hijacked planes.

You are right - it is a world tragedy. I am sitting here at work, I am feeling very very cold, I guess thats just shock.

And for those who arent in the US, dont think this doesnt affect us too. It does. Terrorists who can carry out acts like this can and probably will attack wherever around the globe they think appropriate to get their message out.

The whole world should be in mourning as well as thinking about defending themselves from further attacks.

My company intranet shows something about a couple of key London buildings having been evacuated too, so I assume people around the world realise that this isnt just about the US.

This is a global tragedy.

I cant even think straight so apologies if this is garbled.

My thoughts are with all the families around the world whose lives will be devastated by the happenings today.

We can only hope and pray that our leaders will take a big deep breath and not do anything rash or stupid. It would be easy to jump to conclusion as to who perpetrated these cowardly deeds, let's hope our political and military leaders find out who really did this, and may those bastards burn in eternal Hell.

Elvira

Agreed.

At this point, many of you, many of us, are fuming, outraged, want to hit back.

But I think we should concentrate first on fighting the immediate threats, then find out for sure who did this, and make sure they do burn in hell.

But the most important thing has to be to stop further terrorist acts and to help those who have been injured, who have lost family or whatever in today's attacks.

Kavey

Any news on the Pentagon? I'm confused by the different reports and the number of planes, etc. If any good can come out of this, may it be a renewed solidarity by the US citizenry; too much dissention, politics and ultra-sensitivity have divided us over the last 10-20 years.

Kavey, i know what you mean about feeling shakey. I had a 10:20 flight out of mich. today (which was, obviously, canceled) heading to san francisco. I just learned that the plane in PA which crashed was also headed there! Glad my flight wasn't 2 hours earlier. But, besides that, I'm a wreck due to the shock of all of this. Couldn't even work the atm to get money out at the airport. Just learned that the company i work for, pharmacia, is closing down for the day. I'm just absolutely sick. I'm praying for the world today.

This is horrible, my heart goes out to all of those in New York, Washington, and those who lost loved ones on the hijacked planes.

I put our flag out front of the house to show our support for the government and those that have lost their lives in these senseless acts of terrorism.

I can't believe this catastrophe is still unfolding and there are people on this board already using it to promote their political viewpoints. It's despicable. Shanna, XXX, and TB, you are contemptible. Shame on you three cowards who don't even have the guts to use your real names when you post such garbage. This is not the time or place to try and score points for your political beliefs--it's the time to send prayers for the victims and for the rescue workers who are trying to help the survivors.
BTilke
