My husband really wants to visit Turkey in August, when we have our vacation time. I was there in June 5 years ago and the weather was perfect. I found a post from a year or two ago that said temps can get between 100-140F(!). If we go there, would do Cappadocia, Istanbul, and travel down the western coastline to the southwestern part of the country. Can anyone tell me if it's going to be so miserably hot that we should think of going to Eastern Europe instead? Thank you!

Our first trip to Turkey (based near Bodrum) was in the last week of July, first in August a few years back. The temperature was over 40C (over 100F) every day and never got below 28C (82F) at night. Imagine how that felt on the white marble streets of Ephesus! We did actimatise after a few days but I generally looked (and felt) like a boiled beetroot! I think you can expect temperatures of at least 90+

So this is my question, umm, why is Summer the high season for Turkey???!!

I thought tickets would be cheaper in August since it sounds unbearably hot but turns out Spring airfare is less than $500 r/t and I can't find anything less than $1250 for July. Why isn't it like Jamaica or Hawaii -- i.e. warm places expensive during winter, cheaper during the summer...

- because most British package holidaymakers just want to fry on the beach in Turkey! Add to that, late July and all August are UK school summer holidays and the prices go up.

August is the main summer holiday month in Europe, and Turkey one of the favourite family destinations. Temperatures (at highest in August I have had there it was +46C) donīt affect it. Besides, in winter there is snow and even below zero temperatures in Turkey, so it is nothing like Jamaica or Hawaii.

Mediterranean region will be the hottest. August is different than June though. Ist, Cappa is fine and with west Anatolia you could be fine with some nice hot summer night.... cappadocia will be the most convenient as evenings are chilly even in August.
