The nearest tube to the Holiday Inn Bloomsbery is Russel Square - so you could get the Picadilly Line all the way without having to change. Main advantage of the tube is it is very cheap (£3.70 per person) - but it will take you around an hour to reach Russel Square.

Another option would be to reserve a private car or mini-cab. Cost will be between £25-40 depending on which firm you use (a quick search will find you plenty of recommendations). This will probably take around the same time as the tube unless you will be travelling during peak times. The drive will meet you at the Airport arrivals hall and delivery you directly to your hotel.

You could also take the Heathrow Express to Paddington (c£12). From Paddington you would have to take either a taxi to your hotel or use the tube. The tube journey would however involve a change. IMHO not worth considering given your hotel location.

I wouldn't advise catching a Black Cab at Heathrow as it can worth out very expensive - particularly if you are stuch in traffic.

It really depends on your personal convenience/price trade off as to which method you take.

If I were you I'd get the Airbus. It stops outside the hotel, direct from the airport (I'm assuming Heathrow) this site lets you plan:

http://www.nationalexpress.com/p.cfm?n=pai-lhw

First time in London, arriving from the US (I assume), jet lagged with luggage. Trying to figure out the tube system, getting change for the ticket, carting your suitcases up and down long escalators. All in all, I would opt for a taxi or the airbus. Once you get to know the tube system you could consider taking the tube or express train back out to the airport.

Are you arriving at Heathrow or are you arriving at Gatwick?
If it is Gatwick, the Tube will not be an option as there is no Tube service there. There is an Express train that leaves right from Gatwick and will get you to Victoria Station in London , from there you can get a taxi to your hotel.
You can also arrange for a car service to pick you up at Gatwick.

Your hotel is very near Russell Square and I believe that is where the Airbus drops off and picks up.
Then you would have a short walk to your hotel.
