Trouble booking Cinque Terre hotel
We are going to Italy in October, & for some reason the hotels I am emailing in Cinque Terre are not responding. So far only Hotel Villa Steno responded & they are already booked. No response after 2 emails to Arpaiu in Manarola, nor from Baia hotel, Cinque Terre hotel & Il Parco, all in Monterosso, nor from Hermitage in Vernazza.
Should I just try calling by phone? Any other suggestions for places to try?
Thanks!

Try hotels in Levanto, a great town next to the Cinque Terre (5 minutes by shuttle train) with more hotels, restaurants, and a great beach...sometimes called the 6th town of the sixth town of the Cinque Terre.
Good Luck..Mike

We stayed in Manarola a few years ago and found this terrific site while I was researching the trip:

If you want to stay in the Cinque Terre, don't stay in Levanto. Levanto is fine but it is not one of the five villages and is more like a normal town with traffic and everything! The five villages are unique and I would suggest you keep trying, someone will reply eventually. Good luck!

Hmmmm. We chose to stay in Levanto last September and thoroughly enjoyed
the little town.
We visited and hiked the 5 towns and
then returned to the quiet and calm
of Levanto after the crush of humanity
in the villages comprising the 5 terre.
We thought Levanto was slow-paced and
almost traffic-free. Also, there were
lots of good cafes and restos from
which to choose.
We were there in late September and the
area was absolutely crammed with tourists - p'haps October would be
more peaceful but I would make sure I
had reservations b4 arriving.
A lovely part of Italy!

Aloha tog,
I'm running into a similar problem with the Cinque Terre portion of our Italy trip. Was told by Hotel Palme that a room was available for our stay, faxed my CC info, asked for a response via email or fax, and after 5 emails inquiring if the fax was received and the room was actually booked.....still waiting! Villa Steno has replied (no rooms), but they gave me the contact info for Porto Roca (run by the same management)...2 emails and still waiting.
This is my first post on Fodor's--would love to hear if anyone has a suggestion on ways to secure a nice room somewhere in CT!
Thanks, Mike

Mike - have you thought of phoning?
For a couple of dollars, I have found that I get my questions answered easily, and receive e-mail confirmations relatively quickly (and if not, and if I really do want the particular hotel) then I go back on the phone.

Last September we stayed at Albergo Margherita in Monterosso and liked it very much. We were ready to give up when everything seemed full but this hotel is new and not well known yet. [email protected]

Strange, I just booked with Arpaiu this last week and their response was immediate. I went to bed and had an email from them in the morning. We're all set. Maybe try again? However, I have had the same problem with booking my Florence apartment... Good luck!
