Yes those Coop and Migros susper stores have nice take out deli fare that could yes be cheaper than fixing all yourself. Wine and cheese are about the only items in food stores to me affordable and bread.

Stock up on the hotel breakfast buffet but don't do as Rick Steves once advised pilfer stuff from it for picnics later in the day - not cool! But stuff yourself so you are not famished for hours.

Back to the OP -

Nov is really early for skiing unless you go to mountaintops - that's why so many things are closed then for updating/repairs. And skiing is very expensive anywhere - never mind Switz. Do you know how to ski? Own skis and ski clothes?

You talk about a budget but besides picking expensive items (Disney, switz at all and worse skiing) but you have given no specifics for your budget.

To help you, what is you nightly lodging budget? 100 euros? 200 euros? And are you looking for a B&B? To rent a small apt?

Are you prepared to spend to spend 380 euros (plus food) for a day in Disney? That's what the tickets and train to get there for 3 people cost.

For skiing at a cheaper rate I would think go to Chamonix, France just a short train ride over the Swiss border or any of French Alp resorts in and around the Mt Blanc Massif.

That solution may be really cheap as there will probably be no running ski lift nor any prepared ski pist around Chamonix in early November

What's the budget? (at least roughly) Paris isn't really a budget trip either but you can make it so.

Switzerland is, as noted not at all in inexpensive.

Why not fly in and out of Paris? And enjoy France or countries a bit closer?

If you want to take your child to Euro Disney I hope you will disregard the naysayers or at least check if they have been to EuroDisney and have children. Personally, I've never been and have nothing to contribute but it may be fun your child.

There's plenty to do in Paris and surrounds for 8 days.

Thanks a lot everyone for the suggestions.

By budget trip all I meant is I dont want to spend loads of money unnecessarily, yes but where ever required and value for money I don't mind spending.

Basically I meant value for money(VFM) trip!!

I am very well aware that Switzerland is not a budget destination, but I can save a lot by getting packed food from my home country rather than spending on restaurant food, by staying in rented service apartments rather than hotels so on and so forth!

All I wanted to know which are good destinations to visit while there for a 5 day trip.

I am totally new to European countries so needed some help on planning my trip thats all!

And yes I wasn't aware that skiing is an expensive sport! Thanks for letting me know! Will keep that off the itinerary...

Switzerland can be affordable food wise - supermarkets have nice deli take out stuff and of course ready to eat foods at yes prices higher than at home but not that bad vs expensive restaurants - even a McDonalds meal may cost $20.

and yes bring in anything you can - food in supermarkets is not so outrageous as are restaurants and just about anything else - bring in all needed toiletries and anything but food at supermarkets like Denner Diskount especially can be reasonable - leave the food at home but bring anything else you can carry - if coming from France or neighboring country stock up before Switzerland!

Yes bring essential toiletries you will need from day one but food is bulky - hit a Coop Superstore like the one by Interlaken-Ost train station and then stock up for your stay in the area - to get to the hills you must go thru Interlaken-Ost (by train that is) so load up - prices much cheaper than the smaller stores up in dem hills.

Migros at Interlaken West and Eurospar may be a little cheaper.
For example:
1 1/2 liter of bottled mineral water costs about 35 cents at Migros and around 50 cents at Coop.

Denner Diskount if still near Interlaken west station could be cheapest of all but a discount store with not as much selection or fresh take away things - sells booze even though owned by Migros which I guess still adamantly refuses to do so last I heard.
