Trip planning Stockholm, Bergen & Copenhagen or???

Hi to all,

I desperately need help in organizing this trip for my family (2 adults & 2 kids aging 8 and 10).

At the moment we have only booked arriving air tickets and departing ones.

So we arrive in Stockholm late on the 23rd of April and depart from Copenhagen on the 2nd of May at noon. So we need to make the best out of the 8 full days we have.

I am thinking of dedicating 3 days to Stockholm, arrive the next day at noon to Bergen, stay a night and fly at afternoon to Copenhagen where we will dedicate 3 full days and a relaxed extra morning.

Is it the right split? How many days should we spent per city?

Will we be able to get an idea of the fjords with this limited time dedicated at Bergen or a waste of money and time that should be invested elsewhere? Should we dedicate a whole trip to Norway and include it?

If we exclude Bergen what else can we include in our trip? Maybe something in Sweden or Denmark or even Helsinki or Talin? Or maybe a road trip to Copenhagen and visit something along the way?

Thanks in advance!!

Bergen is nice but a really a small town. Oslo might make more sense as there are actually interesting things to see and Oslo is at the top of its own fjiord.

Are you flying between these various places?

Copenhagen is by far the best of what you propose

Yes the plan is to fly to capitalize our free days to the maximum, however we love road trips and if there is something interesting that you can suggest along the way from Stockholm to Copenhagen we can certainly adopt.

I am even considering Billund in order to visit Legoland for the kids.

Suggest doing "Norway in a Nutshell" backwards to get from Bergen to Oslo, and then the overnight ferry to Copenhagen.

Info on trains in Norway here: https://www.seat61.com/Norway.htm#On...ithin%20Norway

Info on Norway in a Nutshell (or do a search): https://blog.ricksteves.com/blog/nor...un-on-a-fjord/

Three days is super short for Stockholm, you might do better to just fly to Copenhagen from Stockholm.

Whereas I would just stick to Sweden, especially now with crossing borders so much more hassle, if possible at all. I liked Gothenburg, but there other places nearer to Stockholm.

Sometimes Sweden demands COVID tests if arriving from other Nordic countries and other times it does not. Same with Denmark, currently they want a COVID test to enter but I expect that to be dropped. I take self test antigen test kits with me, the ones that provide proper travel certificates with DOB, passport no etc in case the rules change during my stay and also take ones that are acceptable for travelling home. Norway is the challenge currently as it has quarantine requirements. As long as you are aware of the rules at the time of your travel (and comply), crossing borders is really not a hassle but quarantining is. You are not going until April so expect things to be easier than now.

I would not drive from CPH to Stockholm, it is a very long way and all motorway with nothing much to see of interest. If you do decide to drive, you can stop at Vadstena which is a lovely old town for an overnight stop. If you go to Billund, there are direct flights to Oslo, no need to backtrack to CPH. There is also a ferry from CPH to Oslo but you are short on time and the opposite direction to CPH is not as great as arriving into Oslo.

Overall 8 days is short on time. In Stockholm you can take a trip around the archipelago, CPH has alot of things for kids to enjoy. I'd cut the trip to only include Copenhagen and Stockholm or concentrate on a trip on Norway only (subject to quarantine requirements but that could be dropped.) .

Oslo makes more sense than Bergen, but both need more than an overnight.

Even flying between the cities will eat into two days of your eight. Bergen is nice but will not give you a feel for Fjords. Spend more time in Sweden and Denmark if you must assuming your flights are set in stone. Take trains when you can and save Norway for another trip.
There is plenty you could do which would be more fun for your kids, and for you, than Legoland and a few cities.
Why not look into staying in the country for a few days, maybe going rafting, or just enjoying a few days of down time in a stuga, rent some bikes, have some fun.

The fjords are but a boat ride away though. I love Bergen, great museums, hiking to be had inside the city too.

However for this trip, I would stick to Stockholm and perhaps go Archipelago hopping a few days.

Way too many places for 8 days.

One night in Bergen and skip the fjords? Has a lovely waterfront but not sure it's worth it for one night.

Seems like OP may want to focus on either big cities and cultural things like museums or going through big cities to reach places of natural beauty like the fiords.

I thought those Norway in a Nutshell trips were at least 3-4 days?

For big cities, maybe split between Stockholm and Copenhagen?

And for visiting the Fjords, maybe split time between Oslo and Bergen?

But maybe at end of April, weather's not great for outdoors? So museums if the kids aren't going to be bored?

Norway in a Nutshell can take as little as one day: https://www.norwaynutshell.com/
