Trenitalia strikes - do they every cancel them?

I happen to be landing in Rome on the 23rd of April, a planned strike day, and we were going to take the train to Naples. Our group preferred to take the train after an overnight flight, allowing us to walk and stretch our legs. Given the strike however, I'm making arrangements for a private transfer but was wondering if they ever cancel a planned strike?

Yes, strikes are sometimes cancelled, but generally only a few days before the strike date.

I thought the train strike was the 22nd and it was local transport striking the 23rd - do you have a web site specifying this? Also there may be a special once or twice a day bus from FCO to/from Sorrento IIRC.

The train strike is from 9 pm on April 22 until 9 pm on April 23.

The local-transport strike is from 0:01 am to 12:00 am on April 23.

The buses that go to Sorrento at 2 pm and 3 pm go from the bus station at Roma Tiburtina, not from FCO.

Actually, there is a bus that goes from FCO to Salerno, the Buono Tourist. It departs FCO Terminal C at 3:20, does not go into Rome really(stops at EUR and Anagnina) and arrives Salerno at 7. Cost is 15€.

The local trains (which are Trenitalia) will be part of the strike. You can use them until 9 pm on the 22nd when the strike begins.

The Leonardo Express will not be part of the strike as it is one of the trains guaranteed to run.

What happens in a train strike? No trains or limited trains? I've been to Italy three times before, but never during a train strike.

We are flying to Milan, arriving 22Apr with a train to Verona. We are planning on taking the train to Venice on 23apr, so we will be in Venice for our cruise start on 24Apr. We'd planned to leave Verona in the afternoon on 23Apr.

Should we change our plans to go straight to Venice on 22Apr?

Thanks for your help!

There is one train guaranteed to run from Milan Centrale to Venice.
#2107 Milano Centrale 17.25 Venezia S. Lucia

There are several trains guaranteed between Milan and Verona.
2087 Milano Centrale 6.25 Verona Porta Nuova
2089 Milano Centrale 7.25 Verona Porta Nuova
2109 Milano Centrale 18.25 Verona Porta Nuova
2111 Milano Centrale 19.25 Verona Porta Nuova

And one from Verona to Venice.
5501 Verona Porta Nuova 17.34 Venezia S. Lucia

(Warning - These are slow R trains - no seat reservations possible).

And since it will be a strike, chnces are the guaranteed trains will be packed. If I were cattenis, I'd probably head straight to Venice on April 22.
