There is infrequent rail service, i copied the above from www.bahn.de - German rail site that in my experience is the best for schedules and easiest to use - has schedules for all of Europe. To get complete schedules for the day you want to travel - here's an easy way to access the bahn.de's English schedule page: go to the home page of www.budgeteuropetravel.com and click on the link "All European Railway Schedules" or some such wording and then up pops the bahn site's English schedule page. The home page referenced also gives valuable tips on using the superb bahn.de site.
That said it appears the above train is the earliest connection most days. But there is an alternative - you could take a train from Rouen to Le Havre and then hop a bus from there to Caen to potentially catch an earlier train from Caen to Pontorson (railhead for Mont St Michel, six miles away, buses or taxis link Pontorson's station to the Mount. I don't have schedules for buses but a search for Bus Verts du Calvados - of course the bahn site will tell you of trains Rouen Rive-Droit (main Rouen station) to Le havre and Caen-Pontorson.
But these are mainly sidelines with sporadic service.
