My wife and I would like to take a day trip from Caen to MSM on Aug. 7th. Can anyone out there recommend a service that provides such trips from Caen?

Google the Caen Tourist Office and i'm sure you will find some - you can go by public transit as well but the trains are spotty - only a few a day so you must know the schedules - and then they only go to the Pontorson-Mont-Saint-Michel train station, six miles from MSM itself - with mini-buses and taxis to do that. So by rail it is cumbersome and do not know if any regular public buses - but Google Bus Verts to see if there are any.

Note that MSM is technically in Brittany but there could be bus service from the Normandy bus system - Bus verts du Calvados

Mont St. Michel is technically, administratively, and geographically in Normandy because the river Cuesnon, which defines the boundary between the provinces, cuts a course through the sands at low tide which goes to the west of the Mont. Pontorson, the access point, is in Brittany.

The Michelin Green guide i think Padraig would dispute that and that was my only source - the river has indeed moved a lot - i really do not know but was just parotting that usually accurate source.

I have heard people (Bretons) use the saying in the article "le couesnon en sa folie mit le Mont en Normandie" or variants of it. Some really do feel that they lost the Mont because of the caprices of a river.

The website for le Mont Saint Michel says Normandie.

Can't vouch for it though. I think there was also a shuttle that would drive you there from Bayeux where we were staying. I hope you receive some responses from someone who has taken a tour they can recommend.
