traveling from Lake Como or Menaggio into Switzerland

I am planning to base my travel around Lake Como. Traveling late Sept/early Oct. I'd like to take a day trip or two up into Switzerland particularly Sogliola. Is this possible do I need to rent a car. Any help or ideas would be appreciated. I have not chosen which lake to base in yet, looking for suggestions on that also.

Did you mean Soglio? It's quite beautiful there, and accessible by public transportation. I arrived there from the opposite direction, but had thought of trying to get down to Lake Como; I ended up not doing that, but do remember there was a bus connecting Soglio to a town in Italy, and from there, a train to towns on the lake.

Thank you for your help, I am so new to this Im having trouble deciphering the above links. Visited them one was only in itialian, another didn't have train schedules something else.
Hate to be a pest but any further assistance.
Does anyone know approximately how long a trip it would be to Soglio? Would it be a better trip by car?

We stayed in Menaggio-mid June 4 yrs ago. Lake Como region was beautiful, don't miss Villa Balbianello. We then headed up, by rental car to Silvaplana region and did day trips including Soglio. It was very pretty but I don't remember how long it took, a couple hours, no more than 3 or 4?

A car is better, but you can get to Soglio by bus from Menaggio. That same bus may go to St. Moritz and starts in Lugano I believe.

I did the opposite route. I came from Soglio on the bus to Chiavenna, then train to Varenna and ferry to Bellagio. Sounds complicated but it is easy. So if you depart from Varenna, get a ticket for the train to Chiavenna. The bus usually connects with the train. The lady at the travel agency at Varenna can give you a schedule.
