Trastevere across Tiber river...good base for Rome site seeing??
"In the heart of Trastevere" one of the most antique and characteristic areas of Rome . My B&B is in front of the Tiberina isle, on the Tiber riverside opposite the jewish "ghetto", on the side regarded by the romans as the most authentic.
Is this location pretty good for touring all of the Roman sites? Our stay is brief in Rome so I would like to stay near the major sites...found this B&B (Arco del Lauro) but it is right across the river and didn't know if this was a little out of the way.
Any input?
Grazie!

You might want to look at this recent thread if you haven't already.

IMO it contains a couple of assumptions which aren't necessarily valid about the so-called "inconvenience" of Trastevere but only you can decide what is genuine.

Hi, I've never stayed in Trasteverre, but I can say that I read how Prati (neighborhood across the Tiber about 20 mins. walk from Pza. Navona) is considered to be located in an inconvenient area too. We stayed in Prati and found it to be a great, quiet neighborhood, close enough to walk to the major sights. So just go with an open mind.

Have a great trip. We loved Italy and return there in a mere 30 days. Shirley
