Transportion from Florence Airport to Lucca

Does anyone know a good way to get from the Florence Airport to Lucca; it is very expensive to take a van or hire a driver and we are not renting a car so I would appreciate any help here.
Thank you

You can get frequent buses from the airport to the Florence train station (Santa Maria Novella); it's a 20-minute ride. Trains run from Florence RR to Lucca RR, take about 1 1/2 hours. It's easy: not to worry!

Thank you Lucie,
I was hoping that we didn't have to double back into Florence as we will be going there after leaving Lucca and it seems a little counter productive.

I found the express bus between Lucca and Florence faster. It took barely an hour. The bus stop is right outside the Florence train station.

If you don't want to take the train, traveldiva, it looks like you can get a bus directly from the airport.

Check this website, among others

"From Florence Airport to Lucca
Once again the easiest way to get to the School is to take a taxi just outside the airport for an approximate cost of no less than 80 €. The first alternative is to take a city line bus to the Train Station of Santa Maria Novella, in order to take a train coincidence to Lucca. There is a bus leaving every 30 minutes just outside the airport and you can get more information at the following websites: www.ataf.net or www.sita-on-line.it. The whole journey (bus+train) will take approximately two hours.
The second alternative to get to Lucca is to take an interurban bus of the "Autolinee Lazzi"; there is a dedicated bus stop immediately nearby the airport and you can visualize the schedule of the connections on the following website: www.lazzi.it. The journey will take approximately one hour and forty-five minutes."

Traveldiva,

I assume you couldn't fly into Pisa airport instead? That would have been ideal.
