Ireland B&B Gratuity/gift

Is it proper to bring a small gift for the B&B owner or to leave a gratuity?

Well, it's not 'improper' but it's not necessary or normal practice. Don't tip (leave a gratuity) at B&Bs. I don't suppose they'd mind a little gift though, if you really feel you have to, but why?

I think it is a lovely gesture to bring small gifts that are typical of the country you are coming from, and leave them for your hosts at B&B's. Since these are usually small operations, the owners are usually friendlier and more involved in their guests welfare. I know someone who spent a vacation in Ireland and her small gifts to her hosts were well received and appreciated. Money - no. But small gifts - yes.

On the other hand, if everyone did it, after one season they'd end up with a cupboard full of junk (no offense) and after a few years they wouldn't be able to fit in their house any more!

It's really not necessary, and while most people are appreciative of such things at the time, so as not to seem rude, I bet most of them end up stuck under the stairs somewhere or in the bin.
