Transportation to Kilmainham Gael
Two days in Dublin staying in City Centre near College Green. Doesn't seem worth it to buy pass for Hop On/Hop Off bus since the jail is about the only thing we plan to visit not near the City Centre. One guidebook says Buses 51B, 78A and 79 go to the Jail. Would appreciate advice.

Is this a regular city bus or is this a tour bus? I think the bus numbers referred to in my original inquiry are regular city buses and the site you provided is a tour bus? The numbers don't match. Maybe I should just see if the concierge at our hotel can direct us???

Dublin Bus is the regular city service. I know that buses 78A and 79 go through Kilmainham, but I don't think they go via College Green. Bus 123 goes through College Green and drops you within walking distance of the Jail, but not right at the door.
If you like to be moderately active, you might note that it is a two-mile walk, passing some interesting thing.

A few years ago, we rode the city bus from Aston Quay to Kilmainham Gaol (probably the 79 bus). It was very easy to do. If you have any questions about whether you are getting on the right bus or where your stop is, just ask the driver. We found all the bus drivers in Dublin to be friendly and helpful.
