transportation from cruise port to rome

we will arrive in port for rome and understand it is a two hour drive to rome. should we prebook our transportation or take our chances on doubling up with others from the cruise? Will there be people at the docks willing to take us. if prebook, any suggestions as to companies.

It's about 70 minutes by train. Are you talking about a day trip or is that the end of your cruise?

The cruise port is in Civitavecchia Port and the taxi's don't line up like you would expect because it's out of the way. You probably could wait for someone to be dropped off and grab the taxi on the return to Rome or take the train, but there again you have to schlep with you're luggage to the station which I thought was not an easy schlep. You could map the train station to the cruise port and decide for yourself.

I did alot of research and contacted Rome Airport Shuttle www.romashuttle.com for my transportation. I found that they were reliable, resonable and punctual. We paid by credit card and received confirmations via e-mail. It cost us 120Euro to Rome. From Rome to the Fiumicino Airport it was 45Euro.

Friends have used Rome Cabs http://www.romecabs.com/ for transportation. We used them for a day's tour or Rome. Stefano is the best. Our time was limited and he made the best of it. Gave us a bottle of red to boot!

You have to be very careful depending on the train. Italy has so many train and transportation strikes that you could be left at the port for hours until one came along.

As the above poster said, no, there isn't taxi line. You are much better off making plans with a shuttle company ahead of time.
