transfers in athens

Hello all, we're going to greece (Athens) in May and wondering the least expensive way to transfer:
1) from the airport to our hotel near the acropolis
2)from our hotel to the boat port
3)from the boat port back to our hotel
4)Hotel back to the airport.
Any good links to find out this info? Bus, train or private transfer service...any suggestions would be great!!!Thnx

1. Airport bus for 2.90 per person (drops in front of syntagma) or New metro line.
(the exact location of your hotel may depend on which is best due to the distance)
2. metro
3. metro
4. bus or metro (once again depending on location)

Metro: http://www.ametro.gr/
Bus: take Line E 95 to Syntagma Square (these leave often throughout the day)

Re taking the Metro to Piraeus: are you embarking on a cruise ship or on a ferry to one of the islands?

It can be quite a hike from the Metro entrance to where some of the cruise ships actually dock and with luggage this could become an issue for you.

The last post is correct - but I'm assuming to an island since you didn't specify.

Even if it is to an island you may end up with a little bit of a trek depending on where its doc location is (but for me this isn't a problem and I would much rather buy a cheap train tickets rather than getting overcharged in a taxi)- these are things to check out of course depending upon your exact schedule.

If you're boat is leaving quite early you have to make sure you have ample time to get there etc. (but i've made 7:15 am departure time off the metro station easily before)

If you feel like you wont have enough time then taking a taxi may be the best way to go for you- and if a taxi is taken they'll drop you at the gate so if your docking is far from say the metro entrance then this may be a good choice - but be aware of the possibility of getting ripped off by a taxi driver.

So if you're not up for public transportation then you can opt for a taxi if you don't mind a bit more - but I, myself have sworn off taxis on the mainland unless its the only way to get somewhere..

Thanks so much for this info. We fly into Athens May 1st at 12:15PM, we need to get to the Phillippos Hotel. Then we leave May 3rd 7:15 AM to the boat port for ferry to Santorini. We return to Athens May 9th @ 3:15PM. Finally, we return to the airport May 10th @ 12:30 PM from Phillippos hotel. Any other advice?
Should we book our transfers for not only athens, but for Santorini and Naxos before we leave The USA? Anyone know of any great sites to book transfers at a good price for these locations? Much thanks!!!

Advance booking from the USA is totally unnecessary, especially in May when there are no crowds. You can book at the ferry ports just before you depart if you want to.

No problem..

The question is what do you feel more comfortable with. If you would rather take a taxi then by all means do so, if you're up for public transportation then go for it. I'm not quite sure where that exact hotel is (I've not heard of it) so if you dont feel like walking with your luggage for a few minutes to/from a metro/bus stop (which ever would be more convienant distance wise) then by all means use a taxi if you'd like as it would directly take you to your destination etc.

Also keep in mind if you take the metro from the airport you can just take a transfer to say the akropoli stop if thats close to your hotel (i'm just speculating since i'm not sure where exactly the hotel is)

Btw if you do happen to take the metro to the port the Cyclades dock is right in front of the metro station therefore you wouldn't have to travel too far to get on your boat.

Anyhow, have a great trip - hope you enjoy it!
